An 88-year-old Italian, Giuseppina Bardelli, endured four days stranded in a forest while seeking mushrooms, sustaining herself on rainwater from puddles, reciting prayers, and conversing with a fox.
Bardelli, from the village of Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca on the Swiss border, embarked on a familiar mountain trail with her 57-year-old son, Sergio.
The elderly woman wandered deeper into the forest, eventually slipping and falling nearly 20 feet into a fern thicket, sustaining injuries including broken ribs and a slightly punctured lung, as reported by her family.
